Autologous blood components, e.g., hemoglobin, leukocytes or serum, were separated and injected into the vitreous in a rabbit model of posterior perforating injury. The results showed that both hemoglobin and leukocytes induced intravitreal fibrovascular proliferation in more than 90% of the injected eyes.
